The Early Days
In 1994 Leah Jay commenced her property management business as a sole trader in Hamilton. Leah ventured into business for herself after heading the ‘rentals’ team at one of the region’s most reputable real estate firms.
Leah realised that, despite the best efforts of management, the interests of sales and rentals were often not the same; and usually sales would hold sway. It became evident there was a need for a service dedicated to property management; a specialist service with superior levels of expertise and commitment, beyond the established ‘rentals departments’. It is possible, even likely that this was the first business in the country dedicated solely to property management. Certainly there was no other in this region and soon after local businesses began changing their titles from ‘real estate’ and ‘rentals’ to ‘property’ or ‘property management’.
Leah started the business as part of an established real estate office in Beaumont Street Hamilton. After three years, it was apparent that the business would soon outgrow that office
Our First Office
It was time to move out and create our own identity. Twelve months planning and effort came to fruition in November 1998. We moved into the new Cosmopolitan building in Tudor Street, Hamilton and began trading as Leah Jay Property Management.
From humble beginnings the business has grown steadily, with expansion being managed carefully. This has been to ensure the service benchmark was not just maintained, but continually improved. Demand for our services saw the opening of our Lake Macquarie office at Warners Bay in late 2003 and just a few months later, East Maitland commenced operations.
In 2010 ‘Leah Jay’ underwent a makeover. After 16 years it was considered time for the brand to be modernised. The evolution continued in 2011 with a new website, which features a number of advanced functions designed to enhance the marketing of owners' properties and our service. Also in 2011 we completed developments of our new office at East Maitland.
