Working at Leah Jay…

It is really enjoyable and interesting working at Leah Jay. Everyday throws a different challenge and you never stop learning new things. It’s such an eye opener meeting and interacting with people from all walks of life. My role, after having worked with the commercial portfolio for six years, has recently become more involved with the marketing and communications, as well as the redevelopment of our East Maitland office.

Before Leah Jay…

For a short time I worked in administration for an accountancy firm while I completed my certificate of registration in property management. I got my foot in the door as a residential property officer for a Maitland agent, before taking the step into commercial property management with Leah Jay.

Memorable moments…

There are plenty...and working with the commercial portfolio for some time I often found myself in unusual places...like climbing through tin manholes of a 3000m2 industrial shed or walking around an 80 acre flower farm.

What excites you…

I have been working closely on the redevelopment of our East Maitland office and it has been an exciting process. Seeing the transformation of our previous building to a new modern 2 storey development has been amazing and I learnt so much along the way.

About you…

I guess I can admit I am a bit of an obsessive planner (some might say more than a bit)...I like life to be organised and love planning projects along the way. I also know more about football than probably most girls would... although that’s not really by choice!

Working at Leah Jay…

From the very first day I started over a decade ago I have always felt welcome and part of a team. I’m the Administration Manager, which involves everything behind the scenes of the business including paying general accounts, maintaining company vehicles and mobile phones, and assisting the Directors.

Before Leah Jay…

Coming out of school I worked in hospitality for a year before applying for the receptionist position at Leah Jay. Since then I have moved through the ranks starting out as an assistant and now I am responsible for many of the behind the scenes aspects of the business.

Memorable moments…

Winning an REI Award for Excellence in Corporate Support is definitely a highlight. It was great to have my achievements acknowledged. And more recently I celebrated ten years with Leah Jay.

What excites you…

When I was fast tracked from Administration Assistant to Administration Manager, I took it on with both hands and never looked back, which pretty aptly describes me. Being with the company for over a decade I have a lot of knowledge to offer other staff whether they have been here for some time or new staff; it’s very satisfying to be able to share this knowledge.

About you…

I’m a perfectionist. I think I may have OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder). I have to check things two, three and sometimes four times to make sure I’ve read it right or locked it properly.

Working at Leah Jay...

I have found working for Leah Jay to be extremely enjoyable because of the friendly nature of the staff. My role consists of taking care of the commercial properties, which involves looking after a portfolio of retail, commercial and industrial properties. Every day is different in this role, which makes it highly challenging and keeps me on my toes!

Before Leah Jay...

I had four years experience in retail and commercial property management, working for some major companies in Brisbane and most recently in Albury / Wodonga.

Memorable experience...

There have been many, being in commercial management you never know what the day will bring …. dealing with fire evacuations, gas leaks and jumping on roofs in a skirt are just a few that come to mind.

What excites you...

I get satisfaction from pleasing my clients, there is no better feeling than leasing that property, fixing an issue or getting that increase that is over and above your client’s expectations.

About you...

I have a slight addiction to travel – I have lived in London and travelled throughout Europe and many other countries over the last few years!

Working at Leah Jay...

On my first day I was lucky enough to start in the brand new office, which is a lovely working environment. The people at Leah Jay are very friendly and it's a privilege to work with such a helpful, knowledgable team. Being on the front lines at reception is a highly rewarding and very interesting job. Each day is different and brings along with it new challanges and experiences.

Before Leah Jay...

I worked in a variety of administration roles across different fields with real estate agents, solicitors and accountants. Most recently I worked as a herd recorder, which meant visiting 8 different dairies to record their monthly milk samples.

Memorable moments...

It's always hard starting any new position, but developing relationships with landlords, tenants and tradesmen is really rewarding. It's nice to be able to have a chat about their day.

What excites you...

Each morning when my bank reconciliation balances I get a little pang of excitement! Being only a couple of cents out from balancing can be frustrating, so it's always a nice feeling when the words 'in balance' appear on the screen.

About you….

I have always been a country girl at heart. I'm at my most comfortable in jeans, boots and a flannelette shirt. I love spending time with my horses; just being in the stables can make the stress of the day fade away.

Working at Leah Jay...

I have great pride when telling people that I work for Leah Jay. My role as property manager involves overseeing a portfolio which included properties from Branxton to Paterson and everything in between. I look after the day to day managing of the tenancies, from conducting open homes to outgoing inspections, covering all dealings throughout the journey to ensure the landlord gets the best return for their investment.

Before Leah Jay...

I've been in the industry for 7 years. I have worked in western NSW, starting off as a property officer in Orange and then a property manager in Cowra.

Memorable moments...

Whilst in Cowra I took over a portfolio, which wasn't running as well as it could. In 4 years I doubled the business; it was really satisfying knowing that I did my job well. During this time, I brought on 12 new managements in a single month, which for a small country town which was a great achievement!

What excites you...

Nothing can really beat the reaction you get from tenants when you tell them they have been approved for a property, it’s guaranteed to bring a smile to my face every time!

About you...

I am from the country and always will be a country girl at heart. I'm down to earth, I love to smile and enjoy a good laugh. Throughout my travels through Europe I've learnt so many wonderful things and I love to see what this magnificent world has to offer.

Working at Leah Jay…

Rarely has there been a day over the past six years that I haven’t wanted to come to work. As a Senior Property Manager I’m responsible for a portfolio of properties, as well as acquiring new business and overseeing property managers and assisting with any issues that may arise.

Before Leah Jay…

I commenced my real estate career in 1989 as a sales receptionist and I instantly knew that this was the industry for me.

Memorable moment…

Wow…too many to mention, which is the beauty of working in property management; just when you think you have heard it all!

What excites you…

Once I had a landlord who moved back into his own home after spending three years abroad. In that time there had been three tenants, but at the end of the day he was very happy with the condition of the property and handing the keys back was a pleasure.

About you…

I’m a country girl at heart! I enjoy travelling away competing with my horses and camping out under the stars in my swag.

Working at Leah Jay…

Working at Leah Jay is unlike any working experience I have had so far. Everyone is extremely supportive and caring, they make it so easy, if you have a problem everyone chips in to try and help you out as much as they can. I have never experienced such team work. I am a Property Officer, which requires me to liaise with the property managers about what tasks need to be completed each day. That can be anything from assisting at open houses, chasing up arrears, processing applications or invoicing water usage.

Before Leah Jay…

I’ve always known I wanted to get into property management. I completed my certificate of registration while still at high school. So I began my life in the workforce as a receptionist and property manager’s assistant at a real estate agent in Maitland, which was great preparation for my role at Leah Jay.

Memorable moments…

One of the most interesting moments would have to be when I held an open house recently and around forty or fifty people showed up. I was astonished to see how many people had turned up to view this particular property. To start off it was a bit overwhelming, but everyone was very helpful and patient, so that made my job a lot easier!

What excites you…

I really enjoy open houses.  I like meeting a wide range of prospective tenants. When I get back to the office and process the applications and sometimes everything checks out perfectly, then it’s really satisfying to inform the property manager and fingers crossed an application is approved.

About you…

Well, this is a hard one, but I guess something different about me would be something I learnt off my older brother… I can shake my eyeballs…weird, I know!

Working at Leah Jay…

I just love my job.... yes, it’s really busy and some days pass by in a whirlwind, but I wouldn’t change it for anything. I work as part of a fabulous team, providing administration support to the property managers.

Before Leah Jay...

After school I started a secretarial traineeship and worked as a receptionist for an ophthalmic surgeon. One day I saw an advertisement for a receptionist at a real estate agent and that’s how I landed in property management. Applying for that receptionist position was one of the best decisions I have made.

Memorable moments...

Once I took a call from a lady, who didn’t mention her name. She was enquiring about renting a small flat.  The flat she was interested in was leased and I could hear the disappointment in her voice.  Afterwards I realised that she sounded very much like a former tenant, so I spoke to one of our property managers and together we organised a property for her. Despite the lady not mentioning her name, I was able to recall her as a lovely person who needed our help. It reminded me why I choose a career in real estate all those years ago.

What excites you...

I had call from one of our owners who needed copies of his statements and invoices.  He was in such a hurry and I could hear the stress in his voice. I organised the information and emailed him straightaway.  Within 15 minutes he was on the phone again, at first my heart raced and I wondered what could be wrong. He simply wanted to thank me for being so efficient and prompt.  It’s the small things that make the difference

About you...

I love my garden… there is always something to prune and I use this as a form of therapy.  And don’t get me started on my grass, I planted my whole back yard with buffalo runners from my Grandma’s house.  It took three months, but I really do love my grass.

Working at Leah Jay...

I love my job... most days!I genuinely enjoy coming to work, and life as a Property Manager is never boring - meeting a variety of people from all different walks of life. Whether it's landlords, tenants or tradespeople everyone has a story to tell and a perspective to share.

Before Leah Jay...

Straight out of school my head and heart was always in property management, and whilst I took some time out to complete a Certificate IV in Mortgage Broking, there's nothing as interesting to me as interacting with tenants and owners.

Memorable moments...

I find that the challenging moments most profoundly define my memories and help me to work through my personal fears. Whether it's helping a family deal with the loss of a loved one or coping with the consequences of the 2007 June floods.

What excites you...

It's the everyday victories that I relish, such as having an owner take the time to send you a thank you card for looking after their home or telling a prospective tenant they've secured the property and they squeal down the phone with excitement.

About you...

Okay...so the secret's out; I love Cookie Monster from Sesame Street and all 'Me Loves Cookies' things. I have quite a collection, from t-shirts to sheet sets, stuffed toys to cups, air fresheners to tissues, book ends and on it goes...

Working at Leah Jay...

Not one day is the same, every day at Leah Jay is different and challenging. As an Administration Assistant I help with preparing leases, invoicing tenants and general office duties.

Before Leah Jay...

I worked in retail for eight years before switching to administration work. I’ve also worked at a security company as an administration assistant and receptionist.

Memorable moments...

There is always something happening but after having my first child (now that was memorable!) it struck me just how close everyone is here and that it was like having a second family. So it’s more a collection of memories I guess.

What excites you...

Every quarter after invoicing 99% of our tenants’ their water bills I feel extremely satisfied as it’s such a big task.

About you...

I don't like change! I also enjoy camping in the middle of nowhere.

Working at Leah Jay...

Since joining the Leah Jay team I have noticed it's extremely fast paced and no two days are the same. My role as Administration Assistant mainly involves behind the scenes work including our website and making sure it's functioning properly. I also help with preparing leases, receipting and other general office administration duties.

Before Leah Jay…

I was working in Sydney as a temp. I worked for a number of international and national companies ranging from Visa International (the credit card) to marketing at a national real estate agency in the Sutherland shire. I have also just completed my Certificate 4 in Property Services.

Memorable moments…

I would have to say when the office gains new business due to the service and information that I have provided to a prospective client.

What excites you...

Looking forward to learning more about property management and working with such an experienced group of people.

About me...

I'm happy to say that I lived through cyclone YASI in Far North Queensland.

Working at Leah Jay…

It is great working for Leah Jay, good atmosphere and great learning environment. My role as a property manager involves me conducting routine inspections, organising repairs and maintenance and most importantly communicating with landlords and tenants about matters both small and large.

Before Leah Jay…

I have been involved in property management for two years now at other offices.

Memorable moments…

Would be when one of my owners brought me in a bunch of flowers and chocolates to say thank you for all the hard work I did in leasing his newly built block of units. I had worked non-stop, conducting open house inspections, and was able to give him the end result he had set out to achieve.

What excites you…

I remember the day that I was told I was ready to manage my own portfolio, which is what I had been working hard to achieve.

About you…

My enthusiasm makes me, me. I am very eager and like to try new things.

Working at Leah Jay…

It’s a fun, up paced, busy office, where there is always something to do and learn. At the moment I am a bit of an all-rounder helping out in the Hamilton and Warners Bay offices learning the little ins and outs of property management.

Before Leah Jay…

Previously I worked at an agency in Cardiff, as the sales secretary, and helping out with property management administration.

Memorable moments…

My most memorable moment would have to be on my first day, because everybody was so lovely and welcoming.

What excites you…

Helping tenants find properties is the best part of my job. Once I helped a couple who were having difficulty finding a new rental property and the owner was selling their current place. I managed to find them a new house just in time for settlement and they’ve been perfect tenants.

About you…

I went to performing arts high school for music. I play multiple instruments and love it.

Working at Leah Jay…

Is unlike anywhere else I have every worked. Everyone is extremely professional and the systems and procedures that are in place here are amazing. After being mentored by Sue Johnson I have taken on the responsibility of managing a portfolio of properties, tenants and owners.

Before Leah Jay…

I studied marketing and advertising, which lead to working at the Greater Building Society Head Office. It was then I decided to study real estate part time, before I began as a property officer at Maitland.

Memorable moments…

One of the most memorable experiences was when I approved a lovely old man who was on a pension. He had been knocked back by other agents because he was on a pension, even though he had excellent references. When I informed him that he was approved by the owner he was so happy and grateful he cried. He told me I had made his week!

What excites you…

Each day is different with the people you meet and deal with.   I work in is such a great atmosphere, everyone works as a team and the support is fantastic.

About you…

I’m definitely tenacious. If there is something that I want I won’t stop until I’ve got it!

Working at Leah Jay...

I am a  relatively new addition to the Leah Jay family but so far it has been extremely enjoyable and the staff at the Hamilton office have welcomed me with open arms. At the moment I have a caretaker role, looking after a portfolio of properties until it is determined who will be the permanent Property Manager.

Before Leah Jay…

While I was completing my HSC I began working in real estate. After school I continued to expand my experience in the industry as a property officer and sometimes office manager, at an agency in Hallidays Point.

Memorable moments…

My first day, everybody was so welcoming, lovely and approachable. People kept checking to see if I needed help. My nerves were quickly diminished.

What excites you...

I like building a relationship with clients. I get excited when others are commended on their work and rewarded for their efforts. I believe people should be applauded for their hard work and effort no matter what area or job they are doing.

About you...

I have a fun and bubbly personality and I tend to talk more than I should. I had a mentor who taught me the importance and power of positive thinking. I always strive to see the positive side of a situation.

Working at Leah Jay…

It’s a positive environment to work in, despite the demands of our individual roles and the varied levels of experience and expertise, we’re able to come together to provide support and advice to one another. It’s a high pressure environment and you’re constantly challenged. As Accounts Manager I am responsible for our Rental Trust accounts for both Hamilton and Warners Bay – receipting the majority of our tenants rent payments each morning, paying accounts and processing our mid and end of month disbursements to our landlords and tradespeople.

Before Leah Jay…

There was no life before Leah Jay…no seriously I started in July 2005 fresh out of high school. This is my first full time employment!

Memorable moments...

The first time we disbursed over one million dollars to our landlords at an end of month run – being responsible for maintaining that and realising how much we had grown as a business to have that amount of money running through our trust account was quite exciting. It was also validation that we are providing a quality service.

What excited you…

The first time I completed an end of month run with no software issues or problems. We’d often have to stay in the office after hours to ensure our landlord payment files uploaded to the bank. Several software upgrades later and after having perfected the process, it became much more streamlined and efficient. The first time that it was completed without hitches or hiccups was very exciting and rewarding.

About you…

I’m a twin! And my twin sister and I have ‘twin’ beagles. A video of them was featured on Australia’s Funniest Home Videos and even won the weekly prize.

Working at Leah Jay…

I believe actions speak louder than words..... I have been working for Leah Jay for over 5 years, so that pretty much says it all. I am a Leasing Consultant, so basically, I show people through our properties and assist them in securing a property when possible, especially with people who are relocating to the area.  We offer a service that is a little different and judging from our thank you emails and faxes of appreciation, it works well!

Before Leah Jay…

I was a Property Manager in the Warners Bay area and previous to that I worked in Hospitality and was involved in the setting up and running of Rafferty's Resort at Cam’s Wharf from its conception.

Memorable moments…

Oh plenty of those…lots of good and some not so much, for instance during the recent hot weather a tenant called and advised us that she had called the police because her neighbour still had his air conditioner on at 10.30pm at night. I recently lost my former husband to MND and the support I received throughout the 6 year journey from everyone at Leah Jay has been amazing.

What excites you…

At the end of each year Achievement Awards are given out to staff and last year I received one of them.  I believe what ‘sealed the deal’ was when a Centre Manager of a large shopping centre in the Maitland Area, that I assisted 3 years ago, mentioned my name in conversation to one of our directors.

About you…

Fundamentally I get great joy out of assisting people and believe that you ‘get what you give’ in life. I love all things arty and creative and recently graduated in Certificate IV in Colour & Design. My latest passion is Zumba and I have just become an instructor.

Working at Leah Jay….

It’s a friendly team environment.  We’re given the tools, training and skills to confidently carry out the job with good support. I am a Senior Property Manager, which means I manage a portfolio of properties and support other staff members and assist where required.

Before Leah Jay…

My early working life was spent as a secretary for a large insurance company. I made the move into real estate about twenty-five years ago, firstly as secretarial support before progressing into residential property management.

Memorable moments...

Each day is different and there is always something to learn, just when you get one problem solved, or a property leased or a situation settled, then another issue comes along.  I enjoy meeting, talking and general interaction between clients, whether it be owners or tenants and tradespeople.

What excites you…

I was excited recently when a current owner gave me another property to manage that his daughter had lived in.  We listed the property on the Thursday afternoon on the websites, had an inspection the next day,  applications on the following Monday, approved Tuesday and lease commenced on the Friday – a good quick result and a happy owner.

About you…

I try to have a positive ‘can do’ attitude, be happy  and stay calm – especially in this line of work – sense of humour helps to put things in perspective.

Working at Leah Jay…

It is like working with family, because everyone’s there for one another. I work on reception,  so that means meeting everyone that comes through the front door, answering phones, organising the mail, looking after all those keys and receiving  incoming faxes. I also assist people in finding properties by booking inspections and helping with their enquiries.

Before Leah Jay…

Being a receptionist was clearly my calling, holding that position at various companies.

Memorable moments…

Our Christmas parties stand out in my memory... they’re always memorable for one reason or another. It’s great to enjoy the company of everyone outside of work.

What excites you…

I won a Staff Award for Excellence the 1st year I joined Leah Jay, which was so satisfying to know that all my hard work was being appreciated.

About you…

I like to be in control of my environment and have systems in place so things work smoothly. I also love Ballroom and Latin American dancing.

Working at Leah Jay…

Is very rewarding and it’s exciting to be part of an expansive company that has its ‘finger on the pulse’ of property management. My days as a Senior Property Manager are filled to the brim – liaising with landlords and tenants, ensuring that both are comfortable with their investments, and their tenancies.

Before Leah Jay…

I’ve filled many different roles in the real estate world over the years. I’ve worked in sales, real estate management and training new staff but property management is where I belong.

Memorable moments…

I would have to say that the most memorable would be when I was finalising a tenancy – which started out as a normal end of tenancy, however, I ended up finding explosives, ammunition, and a trip wire for a disabled bomb on the premises. And while the problem was resolved very quickly it definitely left a lasting impression. For a split-second there I saw myself as part of a crime-fighting action-packed TV series… but only for a moment.

What excites you…

I love the sense of accomplishment when I achieve a successful outcome for a landlord, especially if there has been weeks of intense planning and negotiating. The sense of accomplishment is heightened when I surpasses the expectations of the client.

About you…

To say that my dog Othello is the best dressed in Newcastle is not quite accurate, because it’s not so much that he’s a dog as a small furry person with really good taste in sunglasses.

I am responsible for the advertising of our available properties and I maintain our websites, update our available properties list, arrange ‘For Lease’ signs to be erected and removed. I also handle enquiries and book inspections.

Before Leah Jay…

I worked in the retail industry for three years while still at school. After finishing school I worked as a receptionist for a real estate agent in Newcastle before commencing with Leah Jay in 2008.

Memorable moments…

Probably my adventures on the road, showing properties.... and getting myself lost! One time I ended up ringing one of the Property Managers almost crying and going into cardiac arrest because I couldn’t find Fleming Street. I think I need a GPS installed in my brain!

What excites you…

Being in a position where I get to work with the leasing consultants and assist people in finding a new home is always rewarding - I get excitement and satisfaction out of helping people and meeting their needs and expectations.

About you…

I’m inquisitive – I like to know everything! If there is something I don’t know, I’ll ask someone who does or I’ll Google it until I find the answer!

Working at Leah Jay...

Everyone who works here is passionate about what they do… including me, even after more than twenty-five years in the industry. I started at Leah Jay in 1996 as a property manager and for the past five years I have worked as a Leasing Consultant. I really enjoy my role, as I take a genuine interest in assisting people relocate at a time that can be very stressful.

Before Leah Jay...

Well basically property management is all I have ever done, since I started my career twenty-seven years ago as a receptionist in a small agency. I was lucky enough to work with Leah some 20 years ago and we developed a great working relationship. I also worked in property management whilst living in London many years back, when I enjoyed some travelling time.

Memorable moments...

Overall it’s the joy and satisfaction of assisting people, both landlords and tenants. Oh… and the occasional time when you knock on a door for an inspection,  no one answers and you go in to surprise a tenant who’s wearing nothing more than a towel, and sometimes the towel has even gone astray.

What excites you...

Recently I assisted an executive who was relocating from Melbourne. I was able to find out a bit of background information on their personalities and lifestyle, which enabled me to find the ideal property. When they eventually arrived to inspect the property and I was happy to hear “it is perfect just want we wanted!”

About you...

I definitely enjoy a good meal, whether it be a home-cooked Italian meal or a sampling of Indian or Thai at a local restaurant. I enjoy going to local markets and searching for bargains. I’m part of football crazy family, so do enjoy watching a live weekend game with the family.

My main roles is to maintain low level arrears, conduct routine inspections, open houses, invoicing, as well as conversing with landlords and tenants.

Before Leah Jay…

I worked in real estate for several years as a property investment manager. Previously, I completed a business administration certificate III, with a local power station.

Memorable moments…

The part of my job I find most satisfying to being able to work closely with my clients. I am a people person and enjoying being able to assist them in all areas of property management whilst building a rapport with them. Having satisfied clients makes my job worthwhile, as I can see that I am making a difference.

What excites you…

I was very excited to learn I have been recently been named as a finalist for Trainee of the Year NSW Awards.

Fabulously busy! I feel so completely supported by a wonderful, experienced and selfless team of people who are always willing to help each other. I co-manage a portfolio of 260 properties my duties include but are not limited to, selecting tenants, repairs and maintenance, controlling arrears, inspections and consulting with landlords and tenants.

Before Leah Jay…

I managed a busy motel and restaurant with a staff of 45 people, while I completed my Real Estate Licensing course. I began my Real Estate Career in Property Management in Glen Innes before moving to Newcastle to undertake a career in Sales for a number of years but my passion for Property Management has brought me to Leah Jay.

Memorable moments…

A very lovely and trusting lady let me hold her precious, beautiful 1 week old baby while she inspected one of our available properties.

What excites you…

Receiving a call from a prospective tenant I had been helping to find a property thanking me for all of my help and to express how fantastic Leah Jay was to deal with. The reason this call was so different was that she was upset she didn’t manage to find a property through us. She had leased a property through another agent, yet still felt compelled to call and thank us!

About you…

I'm driven, outspoken and extremely honest (Sometimes too honest)! I love the water: the beach, the lake, dam or river it doesn't matter. I kayak, Jet Ski, boat, surf, ski or just lay on the sand.

Prior to  joining Leah Jay I have always been involved with offices that deal with sales and property management and always found that property management was put second best, so  working with Leah Jay specialising in looking after owners and tenants is very enlightening.

Memorable moments…

One of the most satisfying experiences I’ve had was with a lovely Sudanese couple who have four children, were looking for rental accommodation for quite some time and felt that “no other agency would not  give us a go”. Since their tenancy with us began, I have found the property to be as neat as a pin and I’ve also been told the tenant even mows the elderly lady‘s lawn who lives across the road. Now that’s a good neighbour!

About you…

I’m probably best described as an “easy going nazi”, which sounds like an oxymoron...but you see I am a perfectionist and easy going most of the time; but there is also an no-nonsense side to me, which is not seen very often, luckily.   I love to please people and get a lot of happiness out of making people feel important and special.

Working at Leah Jay…

Every day is different. Every day brings new challenges and experiences. I love going to work and knowing that I have supportive co-workers who are helping me understand the industry more and more everyday. As a Receptionist I answer incoming calls, receipt tenant’s monies, respond to property enquiries, process applications, manage the key register and assist the property managers when required.

Before Leah Jay…

After completing my HSC in 2008, I continued my school job working as an Assistant Manager in retail, until commencing with Leah Jay in 2009.

Memorable moments…

It’s the people I meet that makes my job memorable and I love learning about the cases in property management with grey areas. I love a good challenge and a chance to expand my knowledge.

What excites you…

On the front lines I have developed a good relationship with our tradesman, tenants, prospective tenants and landlords. Hearing from them and being able to ask them how their weekend was or how their family is does make me smile and makes me feel motivated.

About you…

Despite my age, all evidence suggests that I’m actually a middle aged woman. I’m obsessed with 70s and 80s music, such as Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, and even Phil Collins. A glass of red wine with dinner and an early night is more my speed…which is probably not how others my age are spending their Saturday nights!

Working at Leah Jay...

with any job or workplace there are tough days and less tough days but the attitude of yourself and the team who supports you makes the difference. Regardless of what we have going on in the office, if any members of our close nit team have a problem they need assistance with, whether it be a tenant/landlord dispute, a tricky repair or an abandoned property everyone is willing to roll up their sleeves, put their thinking caps on and assist in any way they can.

Before Leah Jay...

Before Property Management I was an administration associate with a large retail toy outlet. I have been working in the real Estate Industry for 10 years in a variety of roles starting out as a receptionist for a small Lake Macquarie Agency, which eventuated in working for myself as a contract bookkeeper for 3 separate Real Estate Agencies Across Sydney.

Memorable moments...

The Awards for Excellence in October last year certainly was a memorable and exciting experience. Being able to support our finalist in the awards and be there to celebrate with them.

What excites you...

I was particularly satisfied gaining the management of a $750.00pw property. The landlords had engaged the services of 3-4 different agents to carry out appraisals for them. The landlord advised that they had not received the scope of information from the other agents as they did from me i.e. Smoke alarms, new legislation, current market conditions and the actual reality of high end leasing etc. They phoned me several times to ask questions and were happy that I was always able to take their calls and answer their questions. I feel that the communication and scope and detail of the information provided by me led me to gain the management.

About you...

I tend to get a bit of ribbing from my co-workers about being a gym freak and heavily into health and fitness and between the girls here and at the Hamilton they ask me for advice on healthy eating and exercise.

Working at Leah Jay...

Everyone works as a team and you’ve always got the support of the other staff. It’s nice to know that you can rely each other when needed. As a property manager I manage a portfolio of properties, which is perpetually challenging.

Before Leah Jay...

I’ve always been in real estate, whether it’s as a property manager or a sales administrator.

Memorable moments...

The one thing that sticks out in my mind is cleaning a shower screen with industrial strength cleaning product. I was nearly hallucinating from the fumes, but it sure came up clean!

What excites you...

I enjoy seeing tenants that treat the properties as though they own them. A little T.L.C goes a long way and seeing a tenant keep a property neat and tidy is very satisfying.

About you...

I am totally addicted to make up namely… Napoleon Perdis products. I’ve even met Napoleon himself, twice! I have my own freelance make up business and specialise in weddings. I enjoy the creativity and love helping women feel confident – because they are!
