A guide to help you in your search for a place to live, or invest, in Newcastle, Lake Macquarie or Maitland
Part of the City of Maitland, Aberglasslyn is a suburb to the north-west of Maitland. The suburb sits just north of Rutherford with the Hunter River running along Aberglasslyn’s northern border. Aberglasslyn Road, through the centre of the suburb, provides easy access to the New England Highway.
Aberglasslyn was originally known as “The Country Estate”, and was mostly made up of large paddocks and sprawling bushland. It has retained some of the bushland as nature reserve but the southern half of Aberglasslyn has been built up due to residential demand.
The name, Aberglasslyn, apparently comes from the combination of the two Scottish cities of Aberdeen and Glasgow.
Why rent in Aberglasslyn?
The area includes McKeachie’s Sportsground, a 2.5 hectare sporting hub boasting two fields and a function centre. A large supermarket surrounded by local businesses provides the area with most of its shopping needs.
Aberglasslyn does not have any schools and so many students travel to nearby Rutherford, which has two primary schools and a high school.
Due to the extensive land area and comparatively small population, many Aberglasslyn houses have several bedrooms, or large backyards.
