A guide to help you in your search for a place to live, or invest, in Newcastle, Lake Macquarie or Maitland
Less than five kilometres from Newcastle’s CBD, on the Pacific Highway, is the suburb of Islington.
Mayfield covers the northern border and Maryville is to the east. Hamilton North is at Islington’s south-west border.
Prior to the 1950s, the area was mainly populated by workers taking advantage of the close proximity to the industrial hub of Mayfield and the Ferndale Colliery. Now, Islington offers commercial areas surrounding its residential properties.
Why rent in Islington?
Islington has become a popular alternative to other Newcastle suburbs due to its affordability. While maintaining a convenient distance to inner Newcastle, it provides local entertainment and shopping.

A train station sits on the border of Hamilton and Islington, allowing easy access for those needing to travel to Sydney or take a train to one of the western towns.
